I just took a test with this question and the answer is:

  • France, Germany, and other nations were competing for overseas territory in Africa and other places.

This is because all of them were competing for land in Africa and then wanted to grow in Europe as well as Africa. Although there are many other reasons for why world war 1 started, this is the correct answer for these options.
