the 14 amendment adreses many aspects of citizenship and right of citizens
including equal protection citizen rights and was proposed in response to issues related to former slaves following the American civil war.

The 14th amendment grants citizens to all persons born or naturalized in the United States which included former slaves who had just been freed after the Civil War.
