2x+6y=17
2x+10y=9
-4y=8
divide -4 on each side.
y=-2
2x+10 (-2)=9
2x-20=9
add 20 on each side of the equal sign
2x=29
divide 2 on each side
x=14.5
check:
2(14.5)+10 (-2)=9

2x + 6y = 17 2x + 10y = 9
