The statement that The salinity of an ocean will increase when a freshwater source flows into it is false.
The reason behind is that the freshwater has
low
salinity
as compared to the ocean.
On average, the
salinity
of the ocean is around
35
ppt
whereas that of
freshwater
is
0.5 ppt
or even lesser.
Therefore, if the freshwater will enter the ocean, due to lesser salt content it will
dilute
the ocean water and thus
decrease its salinity.
