In Longfellow's poem "Wreck of Hesperus," the sailor asks the skipper to pull into port because he feels a hurricane coming.

He explains that the night before the moon had a golden ring and, that night, there was no moon at all.

He does it beacuse he fears a hurricane. The excerpt that supports this part is:
