france. Around 2000 years ago the Romans colonised most of the land we now know as France. After the Romans left the Franks moved in, and it is this group that gave France it's name. At various times other cultures colonised smaller parts of the country, for example the Normans in what is now Normandy, the Moors in the South, as well as the Spanish, and the English.
