Given the name of a binary molecular compound, describe how to write its formula. Use dinitrogen trioxide as an example.

With molecular compounds, prefixes are used (mono, di, tri, etc).

Let's break this compound apart (not literally):

dinitrogentrioxide

We know nitrogen is represented as 'N'

We also know that oxygen is represented as 'O'

'Di' means 2, and 'tri' means 3

Let's put everything together now:

N2 (dinitrogen)

O3 (trioxide)

Final answer: N2O3

you always start with metal (left side of the table) and then add non metal (right side) like NaCl
if there is more than one atom then you should mention that too. so in N2O3 you say di for 2 and then Nitrogen and tri for 3 oxygen
