Increased literacy was the social change most closely related to the percieved need for standardization.

If people weren't increasingly literate at the time, they wouldn't have needed to standardize the correct usage of the English language.

Standardization of the English language refers to the process by which conventional forms of language are established and kept. It may happen through natural development of a language in a speech community. It may also be an effort by members of a community to impose one dialect or variety as a standard.

For the answer to the question above, increased literacy was the social change most closely related to the perceived need for standardization.
If people weren't increasingly literate at the time, they wouldn't have felt the need to standardize the correct usage of the English language.
