(1) When clouds from the Mediterranean Sea hit the mountains of Asia, they drop their rain. (2) As a result, the land east of the mountains gets very little rain. (3) For this reason, much of southwest Asia is hot and dry. (4) Areas near the Mediterranean Sea have warm, dry summers and mild, rainy winters.
