Since the 5 circles are cut in half, and one half has an area of 35, then the whole area of the shape is 70.
Since each overlapped area has an area of 5, moving each circle away would open up a total area of 20.
70 + 20 = 90

The gold area represents 2 and 1/2 circles. If the total area of the gold region is 35, then divide 35 by 2.5 to get the area of one circle.
35/2.5 = 14 square units.
