A common side effect of both chemotherapy and radiation therapy is damage to healthy cells.

During the process of getting rid of the bad cells, some healthy cells (such as hair cells) may be killed. For example, cancer patients lose their hair because chemotherapy is killing them in the process of trying to kill the healthy cells.
