Native Americans emerged as a political force in the late 1960s. Indian unemployment was 10 times the national rate, life expectancy was 20 years lower than the national average, and the suicide rate was a whopping 100 times higher than the rate for whites. In July 1968, the American Indian Movement (AIM) was founded in Minneapolis and became the organizational expression of the Red Power movement.

This movement inquired the rights for Native Americans to make policies and plans for themselves while keeping and controlling their own land and resources.

Accidents that occurred during the movement include the Occupation of Alcatraz, the Trail of Broken Treaties, the Occupation of Wounded Knee, along with periodic protests and occupations throughout the era.

As we have seen the red power movement used Occupations, letter C more than any other native american movement before it.
