C) Magna Carta.

Magna Carta was a document signed by king John of England. The document protected people's rights against the ruler. According to the Magna Carta of 1215, only Parliament had the power to tax and make the laws - the king could NOT impose taxes without the approval of the 'commom counsel' of the Kingdom.
