Because they make decent money, not as much as millionaires or billionaires but enough to support their families and children. Also, most Americans today consider themselves to be well educated, at least in some forms.

Answer:

According to many researches and studies on United states, almost 70% of people there consider themselves as middle class as per their income that they earn. They consider that they belong to the average income class as per their earnings even though some are actually above the class.

People still think they need to struggle for things they want even though they have enough for comfortable lifestyle and supporting whole family. They also consider themselves ,middle-class if they earning from $50,000 to $125,000 annually even though only 50% of them come in middle class category from this range.
