Human pedigrees do not show the clear patterns that Mendel found in his peas because Humans do not produce large numbers of offspring. A pedigree chart is a diagram that shows the occurrence and appearance or phenotypes of a particular gene or organism and its ancestors from one generation to the next. These pedigrees explain ones genetic history, and are also used to find the probability of a child having a disorder in a particular family.
