How does Annemarie’s incomplete understanding of events help create suspense? Give an example from the novel.

Although written in third person much of the story is seen by Annemarie’s perspective. Her limited knowledge about what is going on let’s the reader discover details as she does. There is innocence about Annemarie, which the reader can share in, that makes it feel intense and real
