Nadia is making a copy of an image on the copy machine. She needs to enlarge it, and decides to enlarge it by a scale factor of three. If one side of the original is 1in., how big is that same side after she makes the copy?

1 x 3 = 3

If you're enlarging it by a scale factor, a good way to look at it is a graph. A one by one box on a graph paper would turn into a three by three box.
