What was the major ideas of Abraham Lincoln ?

Abraham Lincoln was a member of the Whig Party and later a Republican. He believed that the government's job was to do what a community of people could not do for themselves. One of his greatest preoccupations as a political thinker was the issue of self-governance and the promise and problems that could arise from it.

Lincoln himself said that his main goal was to keep the country unified.He once said that if the could do it by freeing the slaves , he would but he would also do it by not freeing the slaves if that is what it look .Lincoln single most important goal was to keep the US a unified country
