Secondary immunodeficiency is common in people who are hospitalised for: Lymphoreticular malignancy. Drugs - particularly cytotoxic drugs and immunosuppressants. Viruses - eg, HIV. Malnutrition - the most common cause worldwide. Metabolic disorders - eg, renal disease requiring peritoneal dialysis.
