How did the court use the clear and present danger doctrine in the 1950s?

The doctrine was adopted by the supreme court of the united states to act as the benchmark when determining the circumstances under which limits can be placed on the first amendment which lists the fundamental freedoms of the American society such as freedom of speech,press and assembly.
