The Song Dynasty was divided into two: the Northern Song Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty. In 1127 the Northern Song was captured by a group of nomadic horsemen called the Jurchen. In 1236, the Jurchens were totally conquered by another nomadic group, the Mongols. The Mongols were nomads from Central Asia. They belonged to several warring tribes until they were brought together by Genghis Khan in 1206. After the conquest of Northern China, the Mongols led by Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan, conquered the Southern Song in 1279, thus bringing to an end the Song Dynasty.
