In "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court," Clarence tells Hank that he will not help him escape because there are too many guards. What other reason does Clarence give for refusing to help Hank escape from the dungeon?

The answer is, "He is afraid of a spell he believes Merlin has cast."

The other reason that Clarence gives for refusing to help Hank escape from the dungeon is that he is afraid of a spell he thinks Merlin has cast.


No one in the kingdom would help anyone escape from the dungeons due to that spell. Hank, however, tells Clarence that he is a magician himself, and much more powerful than Merlin too.
