a /3 + (a - 2) / 4 = 8

multiply through by 12:-
4a + 3(a - 2) = 96
7a = 102
a = 14.57 to nearest hundredth

`(a)/(3) + (a-2)/(4) = 8`

Change the denominator to be the same:

`(4(a))/(4(3)) + (3(a-2))/(3(4)) = 8`

Simplify:

`(4a)/(12) + (3a-6)/(12) = 8`

Combine into single fraction:

`(4a + 3a - 6)/(12) = 8`

Cross multiply:

`(7a - 6)/(12) = 8`

Simplify:

`7a - 6= 8 * 12`

Evaluate the right side:

`7a - 6= 96`

Add 6 to both sides:

`7a = 96 + 6`

Evaluate right side:

`7a = 102`

Divide by 7 on both sides:

`a = 14 (4)/(7)`
