The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo was the Peace settlement that ended the Mexican American War (1846-1848) in favor of the United States. Mexico ceded the states presently known as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorado and Wyoming and recognized the Rio Grande as America's southern boundary. The U.S. paid $15 million in compensation.
