In chapter 23 Amir is losing consciousness. Coincidentally, Amir ends up slicing his lip in a fight. Amir's physical abuse also includes his spleen had to be removed, fractured ribs, a punctured lung broken eye socket bones, a missing tooth, and multiple lacerations. Surgery is required to remove his spleen which means there will be discoloration of the skin as a result.
