Studies show that beyond the age of 25 years, aerobic capacity of a human generally decreases with increasing age. Your maximum aerobic capacity, or VO2 max, decrease about 1 percent per year mostly due to declines in maximum heart rate and lung function. Exercise such as endurance training ensures this is aerobic capacity and lactate threshold are maintained or decrease minimally.
