"Mosque of Selim II" was the greatest achievement of the court architect, Suleyman the magnificent.
Mosque of Selim is thought to be the masterwork of the great Ottoman architect Sinan. The mosque is situated at the top of rising ground and rules the city's horizon. The building of this started in 1569, amid the rule of the sultan Selim II, and was finished in 1575, the year after his passing.
