The coordinates of a triangle's vertices are A(2, 4), B(3, 1), and C(5, 5). The triangle undergoes a translation 4 units to the left and 5 units down. Which statement describes the effect(s) of the translation? A) The size of the triangle changes. B) The orientation of the triangle changes. C) The triangle reflects across the x-axis. General Idea:

A translation is a transformation that slides a figure along a straight line.

If A(x, y) be the point translated h units left, then A' represented as (x-h, y)

If A(x, y) be the point translated h units right, then A' represented as (x+h, y)

If A(x, y) be a point translated k units up, then A' represented as (x, y+k)

If A(x, y) be a point translated k units down, then A' represented as (x, y-k)

Two figures that have the same size and shape are called congruent. A translation produces a figure that is congruent to the original figure. When translated the orientation of the shape will be same and will not be affected.

Applying the concept:

The attached figure shows the triangle represented by the given points and the translated triangle. The shape and size of the triangle isn't affected. The orientation is stays the same.

Conclusion:

The statement describes the effect(s) of the translation is B) The orientation of the triangle changes.

Option B) is the right answer
