How did the United States become involved in World War II?

We began selling supplies to only the allies. Even though we still said that we were neutral, in reality, we weren’t. Germany took this action as a declaration of war, and just like that, the US was included. But there lies the question. Should we attack Germany first, or wait until Germany attacks us?

We would have become involved some where along the way, but what pushed us to join WW2 was the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
