Pregnant women are advised to avoid eating long-lived predatory types of fish like sharks, swordfish and albacore tuna. These types of fish contain high levels of mercury and may have harmful effects on the fetus. Avoiding these types of fish could also reduce the risk of mercury exposure/poisoning.
