What roles did women and immigrants play in the california gold rush?

Californian immigrants would open mines and dig for gold and do similar physical work. Women would take care of their homes or would open boarding houses for other immigrants passing through, or would open saloons for people to rest, or do similar things while their husbands were working out in the mines.
