The 1800's were a period of expansion for the American colonists and the main problem was that Cherokee lived on the land that Georgia's white residents wanted for their own purposes. In this specific instance that purpose was cotton farming. The white residents wanted Cherokee land in order farm cotton and Cherokee refused to sell.
