The formation of NATO resulted in the formation of the Warsaw Pact, to act as a sort of counterbalance to NATO. The creation of each organization saw the formation of alliances on both sides. The United States and multiple North American, South American, and European nations united to form NATO, while the Warsaw Pact was the alliance of the Soviet Union and seven satellite nations. This represents the theme of the Cold War with the United States and her allies versus the Soviet Union and its allies. I hope this helps :)
