Mining activities has been increased many folds due to the development of large-scale mines. The mining industries produce toxic materials. The toxic materials contaminate large areas of land and water. Therefore, streams, rivers, lakes as well as groundwater must be kept uncontaminated for sustainable development. A large amount of water is consumed in processing of ore. The processing of ore causes water pollution from discharged mine effluent. Increasingly, human activities such as mining threaten the water sources on which we all depend. There is growing awareness of the environmental legacy of mining activities that have been undertaken with little concern for the environment.
