Medium-acting and long-acting insulin are more likely to be prescribed by the doctor. It is often administered once or twice a day to provide background insulin or this may also be combined with short-acting insulins/rapid-acting analogs. Their peak activity is between 4 and 12 hours and can last up to 30 hours maintaining the baseline glucose levels of the body.
