Before Japan became a warrior society, the country was already a patriarchal society which valued men much more than women. However, the impact of this was limited to smaller areas of influence because women performed valuable work and men were not particularly powerful. However, these ideas became a lot more dominant after men were able to gain more power. As the qualities of a warrior became more celebrated, those that were different became more dismissed. Therefore, the role of women was devalued as they had no participation in war activities.
