These celebrations were “puberty rituals”, whose intention was to indicate that the girl was entering adult life, so she would not be treated as a girl, but a man could take her to reproduce and procreate. When the girl was 15 she was taken to one of the Telpochcalli schools, where they learned about traditions, culture and history and were also prepared for marriage.
