They saw that it was possible to loosen the power of the communist regime and started revolutionizing themselves. They wanted to end Gorbachev's regime and make Russia a different country. This was mostly because of high rates of poverty, corruption, unemployment, and similar things. They wanted to get elections and similar things and end the communist government.
