A writ of
habeas corpus is used by courts to determine whether or not an accused person can continue to be held in custody.
Habeas corpus (meaning literally "that you have the body") is a recourse in law. Using this tool a person can report an imprisonment to a court, requiring that the court would order the custodian of the person to bring the prisoner to court, in order to determine whether the detention is lawful.
