Answer:

60%

Explanation:

You can solve these kind of problems by setting up a proportion. It should look like this:

(part)/(whole)=(percentage)/(100)

Say that I had the question "Jordan took 40 minutes to do his homework. He did his math homework in 10 minutes. What percent of the 40 minutes did he use to do his math homework?"

In this scenario, we are looking for the percentage. We know that the whole is 40 minutes, because that is the total amount of time taken, and we know that the part is 10, because it is a portion of the total time. We can plug these numbers into our equation, and replace the percentage with the variable p. The 100 will always stay the same.

Here is our new equation:

(10)/(40) = (p)/(100)

Now, we can cross-multiply to find p. Multiply the top left with the bottom right, and the bottom left with the top right, like so:

10(100) = 40(p)

1,000 = 40p

Now, to solve for p, we must divide both sides by 40. This gets us:

25 = p

Jordan used 25% of the time to do his math homework.

Hope this helps!
