Ist the major factors that are linked to essential hypertension and note which ones are controllable by the patient.

There are many factors that contribute to the development of essential hypertension. First is genetic predisposition which cannot be controlled by the individual. Another uncontrollable factor is age.

The controllable factors that involves the development of hypertension is diet, obesity, presence of a co-morbidity most commonly diabetes mellitus, excessive stress, and cigarette smoking.
