Which position is the "head of state" of Australia?

The Queen of England is the head of state for Australia, oddly enough. Although Queen Elizabeth II has no political power in Australia she is still a symbolic and highly respected icon.  Her only duty is to appoint or dismiss (which means hire or fire) the Governor General based on the advice from parliament.
