10y + 1x - 4y + 4x = (1+4)x + (10-4)y = 5x + 6y

To combine like terms means that we must perform the indicated operations in order to simplify an expression or solve an equation.

We begin with the expression:
10y+1x-4y+4x
First, we are going to combine the x terms. To do this, we use simple addition, similarly to if the variable x wasn’t there. We get:
10y-4y+5x
Next we are going to do the same thing with the y terms.
6y-5x
Because there are no more like terms left to combine, this is the most simplified answer that you can achieve for this question.

Hope this helps!
