What was East Germany’s biggest problem after it opened its borders?

East Germans left their country to get away from the oppressive political leadership whuch dictated the daily life, the ruined economy due to the centralized planning and lack of food supply. Almost no bandanas in East Germany for the ordinary worker. Only the political elite received better support.
