The committee of public safety was created in order to supervise and expedite the work of the executive bodies of the convention and the government ministers appointed by the convention. The convention was trying battle the dangers of a coalition of European nations and counter-revolutionary forces. However, they became too powerful, and this power gave them the ability to terrorize France during this time.
