The correct answer is D because the last sentence of "The Fish" is "And I let the fish go." Telling is that the speaker let the Fish die which is pretty surprising taking into account what the speaker does during the story (poem).

Answer:

The ending of “The Fish” is surprising because the speaker lets the fish go.

Step-by-step explanation:

The poem "The Fish" by Elizabeth Bishop talks about this fisherman who found an enormous and incredible fish, and then as the speech advances and he keeps on analyzing how great the fish is, he decides to let it go in the last stanza where the last line says the words "And I let the fish go", the marvelousness of the fish was so great that he could not kill it.
