A Federal Crime as stipulated in the CCFA law. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1984 is a law that prohibits the access of computers or the attempt to access computers to obtain sensitive data without proper authorization. This law first encompassed only computers under the U.S. Government and financial businesses like banks, but after several amendments, the scope extended to other facilities.
