A government in which one person holds supreme power within the state is called what? Autocracy. An autocracy is a government system in which one person holds all of the power. A term that most people are familiar with that relates to an autocracy is a dictatorship. The one person has total control over all social an political entities and they can either make excellent or morally unethical decisions regarding the nation in which the govern.v
