Australians depend on underground aquifers for water because of over-population and their need for water when compared to other freshwater resources.

Explanation

Other natural freshwater resources are most feasible, the water from the dams and rivers.

Droughts and other climatic changes cause scarcity of surface water.

Recently techniques like rain-water harvesting are being done.

Underground aquifers are affordable and abundant.

Two-thirds of the groundwater is used to fulfill the need for Western Australia.

They are also used for irrigation purposes, in the production of beverages, etc.

Almost all Australian citizens relying on underground aquifers for water because Australia has a large number of population. It has exhausted the supply of suitable waterways to a dam which was in very short supply in the first instance. It is the alternative way of water sources at a very early time in its settlement. Aquifers are the low-cost, affordable and advantageous addition to water resources, but they are not unlimited.
