The literary device that Dante uses in these three lines to enhance the reader's understanding of Cerberus is imager. Option C is correct.

Imagery is the name given to the elements in a poem that spark off the senses. Even thought "image" can be a synonym for "picture", images not necessarily have to be only visual; any of the five senses can respond to what a poet writes.
